With the Rugby World Cup over now, election campaigning is well underway.
Last Saturday I joined with Sandringham locals for their annual Spring Festival. Cameron Bennett and I were asked to open up the festival with a couple of songs. I also enjoyed sampling the many different cuisines at the food stalls and listening to the diverse cultural performances throughout the day. It was a wonderful family day and special thanks should go to the Sandringham Business Association and the Local Board who did a great job in coordinating the day.
On Sunday morning, my campaign team and I joined with New Lynn LEC at the Avondale Markets. We spoke to many locals shopping at the market who were receptive to Labour’s policy of removing GST off fresh fruit and vegetables. Numerous people I spoke to were concerned about the Government’s plan to sell state assets and their obvious lack of a plan to get the economy moving. It was great to speak to the locals about Labour’s positive economic vision that will put money in people’s pockets and create a fairer tax system.
Later on Sunday I attended the launch of Labour’s transport policy. After advocating for an inner city CBD rail loop for some time, it was pleasing to see
Labour announce that it would fund half of this venture. Our policy represents a real investment in infrastructure which will contribute to economic growth and get Auckland moving.
A great weekend of campaigning.
